Improgrupp Jaa! (Improv Group Yes!) was formed in August 2009, at the evening hours in a little pink kitchen of our spiritual leader, Rahel. Together with her friend Piret, they came up with an idea how to make a difference in the life of Estonian improv. Of course they didn’t know at that time what was going to happen, but the will to make different kind of theater was too strong to resist. From that moment on, everything just started to happen, slowly but consistently.

During the last two years, we have gone through many situations. We have held our rehearsals wherever we got the chance to use the venue, sometimes three, sometimes ten of us trying to get on stage. We have had the chance to perform at awesome places, though we have also faced times when we had to get together in the middle of the street, with tourist walking through the scenes. Our audience has varied – sometimes only a couple of friends, sometimes too many to fit in the hall. We have had shows in Estonia and our great improv friends have invited us to show ourselves in Finland too.

We have had some dreams in our improv group – some of them have come true, some of them are maybe too big to catch, but we still keep dreaming. You never know what is going to happen on the stage, nor can you predict what is going to take place in life. Everything is possible if you have a bunch of people who are always willing to say the most positive word in the world – YES!

Yes – that’s us – Improgrupp Jaa! incorporates different young amateur actors in Tallinn who have come together to discover a theater with no rules, where everything is happening here and now – in improv.

Everyone could benefit from improv. It helps to achieve higher social skills, faster thinking, being in the moment, being successful. There are two possibilities when you first try improv: either you can’t stop or you never return. Most people take the first option. No wonder why – improv is just a great opportunity for finding yourself.
